"I specialize in being kind"

"I specialize in being kind." Those are not my words. As you know I am getting ready to just finished my annual cancer fundraiser the 24 Hours of Booty (cycling) here in Charlotte (our team MojoRiding raised over $50,0000 picture below) Before the ride my teammate Ray Waugh forwarded me a poignant email written by Ellie Potvin's Mom ~ Ray suggested we dedicate our ride to Ellie (we did), Those are Ellie's words; a delightful 6 year old girl who specializes in being kind and brave!

In part her Mom's letter read...

"My 6 year old daughter Ellie (a twin) has stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer
in her trunk, leg and lungs. I found a hard lump in her lower pelvis only
2 nights ago while powdering her sweet body before bedtime. At 10pm (7/2/08) we rushed her to ER and by 2am our lives had changed forever with the news that my beautiful first born had cancer.

We ask for your prayers for God to heal Ellie. We do need a miracle. I am trying to live second by second to get through this for her and will remain by her bedside. I sleep in her bed and my job is to give her as much love and hope and ease her fears, as I give her truly the best days possible left on earth. I am not a doubter of miracles, but this is a mean duplicating cell that thinks it is a muscle/tissue cell and is going wherever it thinks Ellie needs it then duplicating like crazy.

Then in Amy's prayer for Ellie she writes (again in part)..."Dear God, I can understand why you would want her with you - she is special and very kind, patient and trusting. As she (Ellie) says to me
"Mommy I specialize in being kind." What child says that?
Only a child that you [God] would create."

I made some buttons of Ellie for her twin sister Grace and her parents. Please keep this brave little girl in you hearts and prayers. Ray & I  and our cycling teams will be riding for Ellie later this month.
